Like the proverbial bee, forever flitting from blossom to blossom, I find myself constantly moving from task to task. I've always considered myself a fairly organized person, but though I hate to admit it, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed these days.
To help keep myself in line, I've fashioned a sort of tabbed notebook with these categories: 1) Workshops
2) Lessons, 3) Studio 4) 5RAA 5) Marketing and 6) New series.
No, I haven't forgotten that there is life outside of the art world. Every so often it
yells at me, "You haven't put your summer clothes away or gotten out your winter ones!" I'll probably be wearing t-shirts in February at this rate. And cooking? Never really loved it; now I have to force myself to make a meal. Poor Garry. I'm sure he's thankful he can put a better meal together than I can. Bless him.
Seriously, this artist's life is fuller than working a nine to five job. A person can always (almost) leave the company office behind at the end of each week day. Me? I'm likely to be painting, writing (like now at 7pm), reading up on techniques/sales/shows/scheduling, or searching for next years venues, at any hour of the day or night. Seven days a week.
I'd love to hear your stories about how you cope with the day to day doings of an artist's life. Please leave your comments, and in the meantime, take five!
