After nearly a year of spending about 2 hours a day on social media marketing I have come to the following conclusions:
1. Even having 1000 twitter followers has no measurable effect on art sales.
2. Pinterest is fun, but I've seen no correlation between pinning and website views.
3. I receive most of my views from websites that I have commented on, facebook, and general searches for art of the type I paint.
I am now going to spend the time I've been spending on Pinterest and Twitter on Facebook, but only about a half hour a day.
The remaining time will be spent in the studio improving my work, producing more work, and studying the art of other more successful painters.
Now that I am teaching acrylic painting, I will also be doing marketing for that, but in a different way. It has proved to be far easier to promote than the artwork itself. Less competition, for sure.
So there it is. My purely subjective take on the benefits of social media marketing for artists. Believe it or not.
