Most of you know that last fall I decided to switch from acrylics to oils. I actually like the difference and would never go back to acrylics. Why? The depth and soft vibrancy of the colors, the ease of blending, the long working time...I could go on.
What don't I like about oils? It's harder to clean the brushes, and paintings take forever to dry before you can paint over what you've done to add detail or whatever. The time you have to wait to varnish the completed work is ridiculous (but oh, so worth the end result!) And don't tell me to use thinners, or other additives to the paint. I don't like the way they change how it goes on. So it's a dilemma: Put up with the long drying time or be unhappy with the end result. Guess you know which one I've chosen.
For those of you who have avoided switching to oils because of the toxicity, the water soluble oils that I use are harmless and have a rather pleasant and mild odor. I highly recommend them.
