If you are anything like me, you have moments when you can't help but feel discouraged when you think how very many artists lurk around every corner, in every town and in every city. The Sunday paper calendar, all year round, can fill nearly a whole page with art openings. In summer, you can hardly throw a rock without hitting a sidewalk festival. Let's not even get into online art marketing...arrghh.
And damn! A great number of those "other" artists are good! Do you find yourself comparing their work to yours? What about their prices? If you are human, the answer is a resounding yes.
But I say this: Your work can speak for you and only you if you let it. Your art can announce who you are before anyone reads the name on the placard. Arrive at that point by freeing your mind and hand to make marks that come from your heart. Only then will you be able to have the confidence it takes to sell your work for its true value.
