Get the picture??? Olde Mystick, Connecticut was not the place to be last Saturday evening. A monster rain and wind storm swept through the area, and took out three of the setups in the art show in the apple orchard in Olde Mystick Village.
One of them was mine. (No mattresses involved, but it did look like this picture.) We didn't find out about it until 6am the next morning. The frame of the EZup canopy was crumpled and broken. The racks, thank goodness, survived. And MANY THANKS to my fellow show people and Denise herself (the organizer), most of my paintings survived. I lost only two actual paintings, but seven frames were damaged beyond repair.
I decided to set up my three self standing racks and display the pieces that had made it through. Some guys in a truck hauled away the frame of the EZup. Everyone--I mean everyone--said that EZups are always the ones that go. Lesson learned. Hear me, folks out there? Don't buy an EZup canopy. There are better ones that don't have to cost $1000.
The show was not a success for anyone, really. A lot of rain, spotty traffic, and not nearly as much advertising as promised made for a disappointing turnout. I saw no framed originals leaving under anyone's arm. Some framed prints, a few small art objects.
Guess I should consider myself fortunate to have sold a few note cards and come out losing as little as I did. What can I say? The show must go on.
