Now that we are into March, and Spring is just around the corner, I find myself examining what took place in 2013 with a critical eye.
I have to say I am very proud of the gains I have made since abandoning the art festival circuit in favor of local galleries. After a short period of mourning the loss of interacting with all of the art fans in person on location, I've come to realize that it is possible to have the same kind of face to face exchanges no matter where your art is exhibited. It simply takes a different approach. When you think about it, appearing at a festival for two or three days while the potential customers parade in and out of your display is kind of the lazy man's approach to sales. It can spoil us if we're not careful, and put us into a passive mindset.
Just as we have to create our art, we also have to create situations where we can show our work, meet with people who love it, and ultimately provide collectors with pieces they will be proud to own for many years to come.
I have found that taking that step from art festival to art gallery is very liberating. It has opened my eyes to a whole new set of possibilities. Stay tuned!
