MISCON #1. The belief that you need other people, an agent, a manager, or a representative to be successful. Artists don’t need representation because everyone has access to everything these days.
The only validation you need is that people are buying your art.
If you want to sell more art, you can learn business skills.
MISCON #2. Artists overestimate the difficulty of starting a real business. Getting over your fear of dedicating yourself to your craft is harder than dealing with the basic mechanics of building a business. You need these four things to get started:
You need to educate yourself on how to build a business and acquire the specialized knowledge that thisrequires. You don't have to pay for it -- there are thousands of pages of just what you need on the internet. You can find videos about the business of art on YouTube. And of course, there are real books about it!
When you acquire specialized knowledge, it saves you time, money, and frustration. It leads to success faster.
If you invest 15-25% of your time into building your business, , it will dramatically change your life. I PROMISE!
