ODD FELLOWS’ & REBEKAHS’ HOME OF MAINE TO UNVEIL NEW ART FROM JURIED ART SHOW WINNER – JANET GLATZ, OF BRUNSWICK, ME
AUBURN, ME, November 7th, 2012: The Odd Fellows’ & Rebekahs’ Home of Maine, a combined residential care and nursing care facility located in Auburn, ME committed to compassionate long-term care for elders in our community, will present a new art piece commissioned from Janet Glatz at a public unveiling on November 15th from 5-6pm. The public, friends and family of the residents are all welcome at the open house to celebrate the collaboration between local artists and the Home, helping bring visions and memories of Maine to our elders.
In August, CYON Business Solutions assisted the Odd Fellows’ & Rebekahs’ Home in creating a juried art competition and fundraiser to connect the Home with the local art community and refresh the interior space of the Home with visions of “Spring in Maine”. 14 pieces were on display at the Home from July to August representing a wide variety of media, from acrylics and oils, to photography, stained glass and pottery. Janet Glatz, of the Five Rivers Arts Alliance, was chosen as the winner of the competition by residents, their family and friends of the Home and was awarded a $500 commission to create a new piece that will be displayed in the main entryway. The piece will combine elements of nature and familiar visions of Maine to conjure up memories for our elders.
Janet Glatz was born in Portland, ME and began her love of art in grade school, but it was not until after her children were born in the 60’s that Janet began to deliberately pursue her passion by taking art classes and entering art shows. She discovered that she had a knack for depicting her natural surroundings, connecting light and color in a high contrast style that lent itself well to capturing the unique wildlife and landscapes of New England. Juggling work and painting, Janet pursued her art on and off for more than 40 years when finally she retired in 2010, enabling her to focus on her painting full time. At the end of 2012, Janet will have shown her work in 16 juried events throughout New England.
Janet recently opened a new studio in Brunswick, ME where she teaches adult classes and is working on a new body of work entitled “Man and Sea: Eternal Struggle--Lasting Legacy."
