Have you ever finished a painting and thought it was fine, but the longer you look at it the less you like it? Well, I've seldom had this happen, but this time I dislike it so much I can't wait to redo it! Now I have painted Bass Harbor Light many times, and because it's such a popular subject and sells so well, I'm always looking for a different take on it. The piece below is different in several aspects: the viewpoint, which shows a lot more of the dark, wet rocks that curve along the shore; the time of day-in this case approaching sunset, and the more realistic texture of the rocks.
what I do like is just about everything except the sky and the water. Here's why:
